Description
Male or Female XLR 3 Pin Connectors, Adapters, Jacks, Ends, Solder Type
3 Pin XLR Solder Type Connector male or female ends. 3-pin XLR connectors are the professional audio standard for balanced signals. These XLR connector ends are replacement replaceable connectors for soldering to build your custom cable. 3 pin XLR solder type connectors are ideal for standard male and female outlets.
The image below shows both the male and female ends of an XLR Connector:
- XLR Male connector features prongs that transmit the signal, usually located on microphones to output sound.
- XLR Female connector features corresponding sockets with a locking mechanism, commonly found on cables and mixer inputs to receive sound safely.
- Microphones: Generally, they feature an XLR male output. Use Female XLR. Microphones output a signal through built-in male pins, so your cable needs a female end to connect to it.
- Cables: Usually have a female end (to plug into the mic) and a male end (to plug into the mixer).
- Mixers, Interfaces, & Speakers: Feature female XLR inputs to receive the audio signal.
- Powered Speakers & Amplifiers: Use Female XLR. These ports receive the line-level signal coming from your mixer.
The industry standard follows a simple rule: outputs have pins (male), and inputs have holes (female).
- Pin 1: Ground / Cable Shield
- Pin 2: Positive / “Hot” Audio Signal
- Pin 3: Negative / “Cold” Audio Signal
