Proper Handling of CD, DVD, and Blu-ray discs

On handling discs

·         Do not touch the playback side of the disc.

·         Do not attach pieces of paper or tape to either side of the disc. Doing so could wrap discs making it impossible to play them.

·         Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration or may cause discs not to play. Wipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cloth. Do not use dirty cleaning cloths. Always keep the disc clean.

·         If for some reason you are unable to wipe off the dust with a soft cloth, wipe the disc slightly moistened soft cloth and finish with a dry cloth.

·         Try to avoid using damaged (cracked or warped) discs.

·         Do not use any type of solvents such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners, or antistatic spray for vinyl LPs. It will damage the disc.

·         Do not store discs in a place subject to direct sunlight or near a heat source.

·         Do not store discs in a place subject to moisture and dust such as in a bathroom or near a humidifier.

·         Store disc vertically in a case, avoiding places hot, humid exposed to direct sunlight and extremely cold areas. Stacking or placing objects on discs outside of their case may cause warping.

·         Avoid placing two or more discs in the same disc tray one on top of the other.

Structure of DISC contents

Normally DVD discs are divided into titles and the titles are subdivided into chapters. Audio CD discs are divided into tracks.

Each title, chapter, or track is assigned a number which is called title number chapter number, or track number respectively.

There may be discs that do not have these numbers.

About condensation on discs

Water droplets (condensation) may form on the surface of the discs if they are moved from the cold place into a warm room. Discs may not play normally if there is condensation on them. Carefully wipe the water droplets off the surface of the disc before loading it.
