The image below clearly shows the difference between CR2 and CR123 batteries. While CR123 battery and CR2 battery have the same voltage and are both manufactured as lithium batteries however because of their differences in size CR2 batteries are NOT the same as CR123A batteries and CAN NOT be used interchangeably.

CR123 vs CR2 the size difference is easily noticeable, where the CR123 battery is bigger of the two batteries.
